“Plastic” - a brief description
The term “plastic,” or synthetics, is used to cover a wide variety of high-tech fields of use such as fibres, threads, sheets with the strongest resistance to tearing, housings, profiles, wheels and slide tracks with impact-resistant, abrasion-resistant properties, compounds for thermal and acoustic insulation, chassis and mechanical parts, fabrics, ropes and nets in bales, blocks or batchwise as pipes or containers.
New materials call for new approaches to recycling
Novel high-tech products make it necessary to introduce modifications to deal with them, this also applies to the recycling of synthetic raw materials and returning them back into the manufacturing process.
Holzmag has positioned itself in the field of plastics recycling as the first provider to use the single shaft rotary shredding machines and using hydraulic pistons to feed in the material. Shaft lengths of almost 2m allow cutting tolerances of the order of tenths of a millimetre over the whole cutting length. Where straight blade designs are used there is no problem with heat generation, because the expansion of the material runs in the parallel direction. In the case of trapezoid or serrated blades, this is much more difficult and requires the complete avoidance of heat. For threads, fibres and fabrics, the efficacy of the longitudinal cut does not provide any indication of the quality of the milled material.
Using the Holzmag multi-edge rotor to achieve a homogenous milled material without overlong fragments or dust content
By using the patented Holzmag multi-edge rotor, nylon fibres, threads, fabrics and stretch-films can now be prepared to form a homogenous milled material, without excess lengths and dust content.
Flexible shredding systems - for a variety of different requirements
To deal with the increasing demands, Holzmag has also continued to develop the technology of the cutting assembly: self-centring blade mounts which resist tipping or twisting, opposing blades which are adjustable using limit stops, sieves which avoid any friction and heat when used in combination with the blade forms, and shaft mounts which guarantee precision of rotation when running. The cutting assembly is also suitable for highly abrasive materials. As a further core element of the Holzmag technology, there are the abrasive plates made of carbide, ceramics, or steel.
A further innovation is water-sprinkling to pre-wash the materials in the machine (e.g. for agricultural sheeting). The diverse materials mean that flexible systems are necessary. Holzmag therefore developed an impact-proof drive system with fully-adjustable speed of rotation. The drive can be adjusted at any time and the cutting system adapted to match new materials, thanks to the hydraulic drive system with programmable peak and set values for the pressure range, the interchangeable shaft ends, and the quickly interchangeable cutter shafts on the machine stands.
